SELF NOMINATIONS FOR WISE 2000
(Deadline: Friday, December 4, 1998)

Self-nominations are sought from pairs of individuals who would like to co-chair the 2000 Workshop on Information Systems and Economics (WISE2000). In 2000, ICIS will be in Brisbane, Australia from December 10-13.

WISE is an invited workshop for researchers working at the intersection of information systems and economics. It is a 1-2 day workshop, in the past held each year in December and scheduled to coincide with the International Conference on Information Systems. Participants submit extended abstracts of work they wish to present.  Preference is given to work in progress that  can benefit from the feedback provided by workshop participants. The program is designed to maximize small group discussion around specific research projects. Previous and forthcoming workshops and their co-chairs are:

The duties of the co-chairs include:

  • mailing of the call for extended abstracts
  • refereeing and selection of abstracts to be chosen for invited presentations
  • local arrangements, including meeting space and meals
  • selection of discussants, session chairs, panel chairs, panelists and other participants
  • coordination with the WISE policy committee, which consists of the co-chairs from the previous four WISE events
Past participation in the workshop is a prerequisite for nomination as a co-chair. In addition, experience has shown that having at least one co-chair with local connections greatly eases the administrative aspects of organizing the workshop. The latter is not a hard constraint, however, as previous workshops have been organized without this advantage.

Nominations should include the names of the two individuals who are volunteering, plus a statement of no more than 200 words expressing their reasons for wishing to be considered, and providing planning information, including the proposed location and time for the workshop. Self-nomination will be considered a commitment to accept the position if elected. Co-chairs from the preceding four years (i.e., 1996-1999) are ineligible. The names of the nominees and their statements will be distributed prior to
the beginning of the 1998 WISE. The nominees receiving the largest number of votes by ballot of WISE98 participants will be selected as the co-chairs for the 2000 WISE.

Nominations should be submitted via electronic mail to bweber@stern.nyu.edu. Nominations must be received by Friday, December 4, 1998. Contact us in the event of any questions: clemons@wharton.upenn.edu and bweber@stern.nyu.edu.
